It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these (They usually happen on Thursday to) But this is a strange one, a very strange one indeed….

It was first announced on 5 August 2007 though its licence first appeared on the Ofcom website in January (initially named “Toon TV”, this was changed to Anime Central in June). The channel ran from 9pm to 6am, free-to-air on Sky’s Digital TV Platform, channel 199; and it was the only channel broadcast in the UK and Ireland which was dedicated solely to showing Anime

Anime Central was closed down on August 3, 2009 after massive reductions in airtime.

There isn’t an absolute ton of information on this short lived Anime Channel, but I do have a whole host of video footage from way back then that I’m going to share with you guys. Bare in mind that these are only clips of the presenters talking about and announcing episodes. The Presenters are different to anything I have really seen before, and I’m unsure as to whether they’re genuinely in to what they are talking about, or just hamming it all up. Regardless, this stuff is quite rare, and actually a real treat to watch. I will be updating this post with more footage as I encode and upload it. There’s so much more to come.
